As a holistic health coach, my focus on is the health and wellness of the whole person and it saddens me to see how people are paying the price now for food and lifestyle choices they made years ago - choices that have now become habit.
What excites me though is knowing that we can always change! Habits are only habits if we continue to do them. We all have habits, some are good habits like brushing our teeth every day and others might not be so great. The good news about a habit is that once we become aware of it, we can change it. For me, this showed up as eating too fast. I was a crazy fast eater and had digestive problems to show for it. I ate so fast in fact, that I could down an entire meal and feel like I'd never eaten anything! My brain didn't have time to catch up with my stomach to receive the signal that it was full. Once I became aware of the connection between eating fast and my digestive issues, I knew eating fast was a habit I wanted to break. With awareness, I was able to recognize when I was eating fast and could then remind myself to slow down. It took time to create this new healthier habit, but the lesson is that changing the habit started with awareness and the desire to change. Change happens in the present and it impacts the future. It doesn't really matter what your habits are, how you came to have them, or what your mind says about how hard it is to change them. It really doesn't. If you want to stop living or eating in a way that does not support health in your body or life, then change is in the air for you. Nothing is too big or overwhelming. Change starts with awareness and desire. If you have a habit, a way of eating or living, that doesn't feel right for you, think what it would be like to not have that feeling. In other words, replace it with a feeling that you do want. Are you uplifted? Then make that feeling your mantra. Be in the moment of that feeling and allow yourself to be carried to a solution. When I see people who do not have health, it's clear that they have been stuck in their habitual way of thinking for years because what we thought yesterday becomes our reality today. The beauty is, what you think today becomes your reality tomorrow. Make your thoughts uplifting ones that support health and wellbeing. Times are different now. We don't have to stay stuck. We can dream, desire, and want something better for ourselves, but the ticket is to start.
