We want to see big changes fast - lose 20 pounds in 30 days is one example that comes to mind. We know that's not possible and yet we still want these changes to happen quickly. We don't want to think about it, we just want the end result.
My question to you is, what are these 20 unwanted pounds telling you? Believe me, they are telling you something. It could be as mundane as you're putting too much food on your plate and then eating it all. But if eating too much food is where you've determined the problem lies, then the next question to ask yourself is, 'just because the food is there, why do I feel the need to eat all of it'? And the answer to that question is when you start to get to the interesting stuff. Are you eating because you don't feel full even though you know you've eaten a satisfying portion? Are you eating because you are stressed and the food is comforting? Are you eating because the food tastes good and it's filling an empty place? Believe it or not, these are all good reasons to overeat because at some level the food is serving a purpose. But if you're not happy with this way of eating because you believe it's keeping you from a goal that you are imagining for yourself, then you see this as a problem. It's not a problem. It's an opening to a sacred place within you that holds wisdom. The overeating is a symptom. It's telling you that you are out of alignment. That your thoughts, actions, and emotions are not in harmony and darn if it didn't get your attention! This example demonstrates the body's wisdom. When life is out of balance, your body has it's ways of informing you. Are you listening? Use inquiry to learn what your body wants you to know. Simply ask it! It's going to a lot of work to get your attention - perhaps it's time for a conversation.
