When you woke up this morning, what were some of your first thoughts? Even before you opened your eyes, what thoughts were running through your mind? I'll give you a minute to think about it...
Many of us will go immediately to the "I should" list, the "I don't want to, but..." list, the "I can't believe I have to" list, and so on. Did you know that these are the thoughts that shape your day? Think of it like a menu. Your morning thoughts are the order you place with the universe on how you'd like to see your day shape up. So now think about how your day has gone. When you think back to what you placed an order for, has your day gone accordingly? Have the two linked up? Our first thoughts of the day are very powerful. As you go off to sleep tonight, set the intention that when you wake up in the morning you're going to stop yourself before the mindless dribble starts floating in. And then, when you wake up, see if you can think about the day from a more positive perspective. What do you GET to do today? You GET to eat a nice breakfast, you GET to drive to a job that you love and that pays your bills (and your car payments), you GET to spend time with family and friends. Most importantly perhaps, you get to make choices. You're not being a Pollyanna to desire ease and grace in your life. It's silly not to want these things. If you choose to stay with the "I don't want to's" and the "I should's", then ask yourself what are they showing you? Clearly there's a reason you're holding on to them, so dig in and find out what it is. Don't be shy, it's your life. In the meantime, if you decide to order up a nutritious day filled with love and gratitude, notice how it plays out both during the day and as the weeks and months pass.
